Who We Are
The Exeter University Theatre Company (or EUTCO, as we like to call it) is one of the largest societies at the university. We aim to deliver high quality, innovative and thought provoking theatre to a diverse audience on a regular basis.
EUTCo is run by a passionate committee, all of whom are more than willing to help with any quires you may have. Click here to see who you will be talking to over the next year about all your EUTCo needs.
What We Do
We have an excellent reputation on campus and also at a national level. This year for example Chatroom received five stars at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival! We also perform pieces written by students themselves, for example, The God in the Well by Exeter University student Rob Sherman, which is to be shown in week 6 of this term.
As a company, though, we do not just produce high quality mainstream theatre, but also aim to challenge audiences, such as with our production of J.T. Roger’s play, The Overwhelming, a critical portrayal of the mass genocide in Rwanda. In addition Exeter University Theatre Company also seeks out new, innovative locations for productions, like University dining area ‘The Long Lounge’, which was transformed into one huge theatre with actors mingling with audience members as part of Between Mouthfuls in 2007, and the University Chapel that was the setting for Arthur Miller’s The Crucible earlier this year.
Every year EUTCo teams up with the Exeter Northcott, a theatre with a capacity of 433 seats. In this massive venue we have produced shows such as The Miracle Worker and Mourning Becomes Electra. This year, our Northcott production is Harvey, which will be performed in the first week of February next term. Following its recent refurbishment, we have created close ties with the Northcott, so watch this space for updates on new and exciting things for you to get involved it!
Alongside our frequent performances, in recent years we have also developed several workshops for the many different skills involved in theatre. These have been aimed at not just actors, but writers, producers, and technical designers. These are ongoing, so make sure you keep checking here and on the bi-weekly newsletter for information about the next workshop available to all EUTCo members.
